Opening Masters Road Race for 2014

May 22, 2014
Another fantastic day out at the Masters event in Herne Hill with over 150 bike racers showing up. Thankfully the weather held off nicely and despite the wet roads on the way out we had a safe and dry race.
In the Punto Tours sponsored Road Race Team EHBS had good numbers especially in A Grade with Sam Smith, Joe Radisic, Brett Looney, Magnus Rudisele, Chris Brown, Chris Glasby and Eddy Hollands lining up.
Magnus found himself in the move of the day with another 7 riders. This took the pressure of the guys in bunch and we just had see how the race was situated towards the end. Unfortunately Magnus lost contact with about 2 laps to go so that the sign for the others to get into action.
Joe starting the show the form that all his hard work in training is paying off looped off the front with Colin Rose and almost made it across only to miss out by about 15sec. But this formed a nice springboard for Sam to jump across to Joes group. With all this going on, the break was slowly disintegrating under the constant pressure of being caught and going into the last few kilometres they was only 2 guys left in front.
Eddy sprung into action on the long second last straight and jumped across to Joes group then jumped across to Sam that had got away with Matt Upton.
Sam finished in 3rd with Eddy 5th and Joe getting in the money with 8th.
Fantastic team effort after what could have been a disastrous day.
In C Grade we had Jane Higgins and Jarred Finnigan representing the team. Jane had great ride finishing 10th in the bunch sprint won by the legend himself Bob Addy. Not sure what happened to Jarrad but he lost contact with the bunch, maybe he partied a bit hard on his birthday during the week.
Massive thank you to all our sponsors and supporters and of course the riders that continue to come back for more hard but fun racing. Looking forward to good road season and some more good results to come.
