Tour of Poyang Lake 2014 - Stage 2

October 14, 2014
Stage two was a 122km circuit race up and down one big road with a hotdog turn at each end in the town of Yichun. The lap was 15.25km per lap with a head wind one way and a tail wind the other.

With no neutral this stage people where warming up showing the intention of what was about to happen. Of course as soon as the gun went the attacks started. It wasn't until the 3rd lap a break established itself. It wasn't planned but it just so happened that a break with Eddy in it was caught and the next move that went involved Jake was the the one that stayed away for the majority of the race. He attached from the back and launched across to the move. The break only had 3 guys in it so it was always going to be tough for these guys to stay away. Jake was showing some form we all know he has as was regularly seen on the front of the break.
The time gap got out to just over a minute at which point the GC teams sent some guys to the front just to control the race and not let the break get too far ahead.

With 2 laps to go the gap was down to about 20sec and that was the point where Eddy jumped across to Jake and his mate and started to extend the time gap again out to nearly 50sec. But unfortunately for us the RTS team who were riding for big Boris got to the front and closed it down with just over 10km to go.

But this did take the pressure of Samai and Heksa for the bunch sprint. Samai was having a much better day and even won a bunch sprint for an intermediate sprint while Jake was up the road. But unfortunately for Samai he had a slow leak in his front wheel and it wasn't until he got out of the seat sprint that he realised this. Heksa finished somewhere near the top 20 again.
Sebastian also had a much better day finishing safely in the bunch avoiding a crash in the last kilometre which Amir did not and had a bit of a lay down. He is ok and will rejoin the race tomorrow.

After a casual ride home with the City of Perth boys. We had our lunch and enjoyed an 90km transfer to the next town.
