Tour of Brunei Race Report Stage 5

September 12, 2011

Stage 5 – 146.5 - 30km circuit with 600m of climbing per lap

The last day of the tour and probably the hottest day of the week.

With the 30km circuit, thankfully I could feed both from the car and on one of the hills at each turn around point, so the boys kept hydrated and fuelled, but it didn’t take away the tired legs.

We lost the Green Jersey on the 1st intermediate sprint but not without trying. Salleh from Pro Asia team was only 3 points behind Heksa and was a stronger sprinter on the day. We managed to secure 2nd place in the Sprint Classification for the Tour.

At the half way point Tabriz Petrochemical were riding hard to chase a break of 3 which sub sequentially caused a decisive break of 20 riders - only Eddy had the legs to make it.

The break eventually gained 7 minutes from Grupetto, pushing Heksa out of top 10 and moving Eddy into the top 20 GC. But the move of the day came from Eddy and his impressive sprint, claiming 1st in the bunch for a 4th overall. A nice way to top up the winnings and finish the tour.

We’re even proud of Neil Stummer carrying the Lanton Rouge on his first international tour!
