Tour of Poyang Lake 2014 - Stage 5Stage Five was another 80km race on a 16.2km circuit in the town of Leping.
It was pretty uneventful for the first 3 laps. With the bunch not letting any break get away. Although a move looked promising and Eddy jumped across to it just incase it was allowed some space.
On being caught Eddy drifted back to get Jake to move forward and be ready for the counter move after the intermediate sprint. But by the time he got to the back Jake was no where to be seen. He was unfortunate enough to have a run it with one of the barriers that blew into the bunch.
It happened a few times. He is fine, the bike is fine and will be ok to start again tomorrow.
By this stage the bunch was lined out for the sprint and the speed was such that it wasn't possible to move up again. Heksa was up there when it happened but just didn't have to power at that stage to get into the break.
As predicted a good working group got away soon after the sprint. The race leader missed it so it was up to him and his team to try and bring it back. But with a number of teams in the break they didn't get any help. The time gap went out to about 45sec but due to natural way the race goes towards the end it was brought back to about 20sec.
Samai and Heksa set themselves up nicely for the bunch sprint but Samai got squeezed in the last corner and lost position. The rest of us finished safely in the bunch.
So not such a good day for us but we are all in good spirits and we give it ago again tomorrow.
