Tour of Poyang Lake 2014 - Stage 7

October 18, 2014
Stage Seven was 10 laps of a 12.5km circuit in the city of Nanchang were it all began 5 years ago now. The city has grown to the point that it unrecognisable from that time.

The day started with the team trying to sort out Samai's broken bike and set up a spare bike for from the neutral spare bikes. Thank you to them for letting us using one today.

It was the hottest day we have had so far with the temperature getting to 29 degrees.

Eddy has found memories of this race as this is the exact same one that he got second in last year.

We all rode out to race together as one big bunch so it was good to catch up and swap war stories with a few guys. As despite staying in the same hotel we really don't get to socialise a lot with the other riders outside of the race.

The race started as per usual with the flurry of attacks. It wasn't until after half way that a few moves started to look dangerous. Eddy made sure the EHBS were represented in most of them. But with the narrow roads we raced on today it was sometimes difficult to move up the bunch if you were a bit nervous.

The pace of the race also made it hard to move up as you had to wait until there was a moment when the speed dropped so you could force you way to the front.

There were also a few crashes the happened in as the race went on as people got a bit tired as it was a longer stage of 125km today. This caused a few guys to get caught up in the carnage and lose contact with the bunch.

A group got away in the last 3 laps and with the narrow roads this allowed the teams of the breakaway to block the road and the gap grew quickly to 1min. It took awhile foe the chase to organise but when it did it didn't take long for the gap to close.

It came down to a bunch sprint again. Hekza followed Eddy up towards the front and looked pretty good for a decent result but was squeezed on the right side of the road when the lead out started on the left.

So not a good day results wise for the team but everyone stayed up right to fight again.
