Tour of Poyang Lake 2014 - Stage 9

October 21, 2014
Stage Nine was 81km stage which consisted of a ride out to the start finish line and then 12 laps of a 6km circuit around a lake in the city of Fuzhou. Andy Williams was obviously on for a good day rocking a skin suit and booties.

It was the windiest day we had so far and there a chance of rain. But with it still being 27 degrees it was quite humid. It tried to rain about half way through the race but it didn't eventuate into much.

Guys attacked from the flag drop but with a strong headwind on the way to the circuit and some sore legs from yesterday's stage the action only really started once we hit the circuit. Eddy found himself in a move that got away with 10 laps to go. This stayed away for nearly 4 laps but was chased down once the break was joined by a few more riders, some of which were a threat on GC.

After a bit of persuasion Amir and Sebastian followed a few moves that tried to get away. While all this was happening Jake was enjoying a nice chase back to the bunch after a puncture.
The next move went soon after and this time EHBS has Hekza representing us. This move looked good and put a few of the teams in a panic. With just over 2 laps to go Eddy again found himself in a group of 4 riders that were allowed a bit of gap. The 4 worked well together but were unfortunately caught with 2kms to go.

The bunch sprint was with the tailwind and was quite messy but luckily everyone stayed upright with no crashes. Hekza and Samai got involved with the sprint with Samai finishing inside the top 20 after someone rang into his rear derailer and bent the hanger. Hekza was caught out in the mess and rolled in somewhere in the top 30.

After a gentle ride through the streets of Fuzhou back to the hotel we had had some lunch and then got ready for another 200km transfer.
