Tour of Poyang Lake 2014 - Stage 11Stage Eleven and the last stage of the 2014 Poyang Lake Tour. It was 12 laps of a 8km circuit. But instead of being 96km it ended up being 100km in length. It was a nice day, not too hot or cold enough to wear arm warmers. Which seems to have been the trend this year, which has been a welcome relief after last years cold and wet conditions.
We all arrived at the start line as a bunch and were immediately swamped by people wanting photos. All part of the process so we took it in our stride and just enjoyed it. We had plenty of time to chat with the other guys this morning which is unusual at the start line in this tour.
With no neutral today the race was on from the gun. A few people tried to get away in the first few laps but nothing really got more than 10 seconds before it was chased down.
Eddy and Hekza were in some moves that could have got some ground but with the GC riders jumping into these moves it ruined the chances of any success.
Sebastian and Amir rode well in the bunch which they have learned to do very well. All we need to do now is teach them how to attack. Poor old Jake was suffering from a cold and had to withdrew with a few laps remaining. Good decision since we have a another race after this one is finished.
On the last lap of the race Eddy took Hekza and Samai to the front with about 5kms to go and tried to keep them out of trouble. It was a very fast run into the finish with a couple of guys crashing again. One guy fell off in front of Samai borking his run, Hekza was the best finisher for the team finishing in 10th place. Eddy hung on for 43rd.
We all had to stay for the closing ceremony which was loud in the way only the Chinese can make it. This of course lead to more photos. But this time Leah was the star attraction. She had more photos taken of her with random people than anyone in the team.
We all rode back to the hotel and packed our bikes for the long transfer tomorrow to the one day race.
The team would like to thank everyone involved in getting them team here in China. All the sponsors, Energy HR, Duratech Security, V Burger, KHT, Poyner Racing Systems. All the team product suppliers, Merida Bikes, Bolle Glasses, Ranking Helmets and Bindi Nutrition.
Special mention to Sarah-Jeanne Fraser who put in all the hard work to find our Indonesian riders and Singapore riders. As well as finding flights for everyone and making sure everything ran smoothly.
Also massive thank you to Leah Flynn who stepped in at the last moment to manage the team. But I think she enjoyed it as much as anyone.
