Eddy Hollands wears YELLOW - Stage 1 Tour of Indonesia

October 3, 2011
A great start to the Tour of Indonesia on 2nd October 2011 - 10x9.8 km laps of a hotdog circuit

This was a flat fast non-technical circuit in which could see the peloton moving at speeds in excess of 50 km/hr. The overall average for the race came in at just under 44 km/hr.

Racing started aggressively as you'd expect with attack after attack. Our own man Neil Stummer got in the first successful move of the day on lap 1. This was great for the rest of the team as we were able to sit in and just mark the moves. Neil stayed away with a small group which was eventually caught on lap 3.

Another 3 laps passed without any moves sticking. There was a n intermediate sprint up for grabs on lap 6 which saw the peloton pace lift dramatically up over the 50 k/hr mark.

Eddy took the opportunity to attack shortly after this point and got himself off the front. There he stayed some 300m in font of the bunch for 1/2 lap. Plan B's Nathan Dalberg bridged solo to Eddy and the pair worked well together and built a lead of around 40 seconds over the peleton.
During lap 7 four riders got away and eventually bridged across to eddy and Nathan on lap 8.

This 6 man group stayed away. With 1 k to go to the finish Nathan Dalberg attacked the group, Eddy wisely let the other riders chase him down and he was caught with 500 to go.

At this point everyone sat up and stalled....Eddie hit them with 300 to go and made it to the line half a bike length clear with plenty of room spare for a two handed salute !!
