Perth Crit Series, Race 4, Fremantle. The last round of the Perth Crit Series and what a good night of racing it was.
Support Race; With all the pressure on the EHBS and Energy HR teams to get either William Heath(Energy HR) or Sam Smith(EHBS) back into the yellow jersey, some clever tactics had to be put into place. The boys rode to perfection again. Nathan Lyons controlled preceedings early while Sam relaxed back in the bunch waiting for his opportunity to attack. But Graig Cooke was onto Sam and wouldn't let him out of his sights, so then the boys had go to plan b and set up big Will for the bunch sprint. The boys didn't panic when one rider got away towards the end. They know he wasn't a threat overall so they just concentrated on the job in hand. In the sprint for 2nd William Heath(Energy HR) won that by 4 bike lenghts and the leadout was so good by the boys that Sam Smith(EHBS) finished 6th, Nathan Lyons(Energy Hr) finished 7th and Matt Upton(Energy Hr) finished 10th.
Overall William Heath won the Series, Sam Smith was 3rd, Nathan Lyons was 9th and Matt Upton 16th. With Sam, Will and Nathan rounding out the top 3 in the Santos Sprint King.
What can be said but, great team riding by everyone. Well done boys.
Ladies race; In another hard and fast ladies race, no prisoners where taken. The race split up early, this time Nicole Whitburn had made the front group and looked comfortable. But the the strong Hays Team she was out numbered, but put up a great showing finishing in 6th place.
Overall Nicole finished in 6th with Sarah-Jeanne Fraser in 10th. Great results in one of the strongest ever ladies field to race the Perth Crit Series.
Open Race; Once again Genesis and Budget where doing their best to destroy each other. With constent attacking the race was always going to be hard one to try and pick which of the moves was the right one to follow. Michael Freiburg found himself in a very useful looking move, but a crash happened just as his group were moving away. The crash held up a number of riders and this cause some confusion, as riders jumped into the breakaway instead of going back to the bunch. This caused the breakaway to stop working. With about 15mins to go after a prime Eddy Hollands attacked. He was joined a few laps later by Anthony Giacoppo and Luke Davison. With the other 2 seemingly unwilling to help Eddy, he pushed on. The break stayed away with Eddy crossing the line in 3rd, a nice podium finish for the team. Loic also had a good finish, 7th this time for our swiss guest.
Overall Loc was 9th and Eddy 10th.
EHBS and Energy HR would also like to thank the support crew during the last 4 days, Anna Kaufmann, Brett Looney, Janine Spiby, Peter Griffin and our photgrapher Louise Crawley. We hopefully have some photos posted very soon.
