Tour of Qinghai Lake 2012, Stage oneStage one, 98km circuit race consisting of 8 laps of a 12.1km circuit.
After nearly 2 weeks of training up here at 2400m it was time to get the racing underway. We meet our Chinese teammates 2 days ago and there are good guys, it should be a good tour. Thanks to our helmet sponsor Ranking, Eddy Hollands, Dylan Spiby and Heksa Prasetya have been invited to ride for the Qinghai Tianyoude Cycling Team a local team from here in Qinghai, China.
It was quite relaxed on the start line which is a nice surprise after all the other Asian racing we have done in the past. The deciding break of the day got clear on the 3rd lap, we had WU Sheng Jun in the move so we could sit back and watch Farnese Vini take up the control of the bunch.
The break was caught going into the last lap, but WU Sheng Jun had got enough time bonuses in the sprints to take the Asian rider classification as long as he stayed within the bunch. So that was our job to make sure he didn't loose any time. Which we did successfully so we now had the blue jersey for best Asian rider in the team.
A special mention to Dylan who rode a great race, never out of the to 20 riders all day. He was unfortunately shuffled out of position going not the last corner after entering in about 15th. Otherwise a good day for him.
So after a successful day it was time to head back to the accommodation, shower, wash clothes and rest up for another big day tomorrow.
Eddys Garmin stats, 98km, 2hr 6mins, average speed 46.4km/h, total ascent 420m.
