Tour of Qinghai Lake, 2012, Stage 9.Stage was a 117km flat transition race. No major obstacles, thankfully no wind and no rain. At an altitude off 1500m which is as high as Mt Buller, but it felt like sea level after what we have been at.
With no neutral zone today we started racing from the start line. Within the first hour of racing we covered 50km which took us to the first sprint, not long after a small group off 5 riders escaped which was the signal for TPT to tale control and ride a steady tempo 45km/h just to keep the break in check. It was actually quite pleasant sitting in bunch which was nice for a change.
There was a bit of a muppet crash with around 40km to go as someone dropped a bidon and for some reason a few guys panicked causing a major switch in the bunch. Unfortunately another Specialized crash as broke his hand. That's 2 riders from that team crashing in 2 days requiring hospital treatment.
In the last 20km Farnese Vini took control and bought to break back with 4kms to go. This worked nicely for them as Andrea Giardini won the stage in a mass sprint with no crashes for a change.
Dylan got through the stage looking much better than he did yesterday, with the guidance of Eddy again. Who spent most of the day making sure the youngster didn't have the same issues as yesterday.
We now have a 240km transfer, living the dream
Eddy's Garmin stats, 117km, 2hrs 30mins, average speed 46.7km/h, total ascent 174m.
