Tour of Qinghai Lake, 2012, Stage 10.

July 9, 2012
Stage 10 was a 191km which was mostly flat with a 3 category climb with 55km to go. It was not a good day for the team today.

Another sunny day greeted us this morning at the start line, which was nice as the forecast said it was suppose to be raining. There was a slight breeze blowing, just enough to make the bunch nervous as we headed in one direction today. So we were going to have a crosswind for most of the day.

Another fast start to the stage with guys trying to escape and build up a big enough lead to survive to the finish. It wasn't until the 30 km mark that a group managed to getaway. But they were caught just before the first sprint point at 63km. Once back together the attacking started again.

Another group got away about 10km after the sprint. As a result we covered 95kms in the first 2hrs of racing. The climb started at 130km and this were the stage started to unravel for us.

Dylan who was still having problems with his breathing just couldn't hang on any more, tough effort though to get as far as he did. The 2 Chinese guys that are up in the top ten for the best Asian riders had a terrible climb too. WU Shengzu is sick and was down the back, WU lienen crashed and broke his gear lever. Dylan was at hand and gave is bike up leaving him to ride one of the spare bikes, which was way to small for him until he called it quits with 40km to go. We tried to get both our guys back to the bunch, but with no cooperation from the other 40riders in our group there was no hope in catching the main group. So as a result we rolled in loosing around 10mins or so.

So after a very average day for us, we have another 125km transfer to the next town. Living the dream.

Eddy's Garmin stats, 191km, 4hrs 11mins, average speed 45.7km/h, total ascent 1051m.
