Tour of Qinghai Lake, 2012, Stage 11.

July 10, 2012
Today's stage was a 107km circuit race, but before we got to the circuit we had to race 24kms to start the 7 laps of the circuit.

To our surprise this morning we had to ride to the start line which was 20km away. It was blessing in disguise as we had a 1km climb from the start line so everyone was warmed up for the climb. As a result we started racing from the gun, these guys just don't slow down. The rest of the course was pan flat.

A group got away on the run in to the circuit. Which meant the Italian team Farnese Visi and the belgium team Landbouwkrediet took up control of the bunch and always kept the break within striking distance. For some reason Farnese Visi relaxed just as the break was caught with 30km to go and this let another group off the front. This meant the Italian team had to get back on the front and start chasing again

It was all back together with one lap to go, the resulting sprint went to the green jersey holder from the Sava team from Slovakia.

On a sad note, a Chinese rider crashed into a photographer today resulting in both rider and photographer ending up in hospital. It didn't look nice at all.

But with the longest stage tomorrow of 220km, it now time to try and relax and get the head right for a very long day in the saddle.

Eddy's Garmin stats, 107km, 2hr 15mins, average speed 47.7km/h, total ascent 100m.
