Chris Glasbys race report from the State Masters Road Titles, 12-8-2012The State Masters road champion ships were greeted with wet and windy conditions today , A feild of 20 to lined up to contest the medals over just 55km and from the gun it was clear I would be marked heavily .
Mark Paget made an early solo break with bunch content to give him a healthy gap the first attempt i made to cross the gap drew a quick reaction from the bunch making it clear they would not let me go easily.
Mark was slowly reeled in by lap 3 to which i responded with a series of hard attacks which split the field leaving just 6 in the front bunch .
As the weather grew worse I tried to whittle the bunch down further but again swift responses from the SPR boys and Mark Horn closing me down each time refusing to let me have my way .
With just 1 lap to go it was clear it would be a sprint for the medals , I refused to respond to a couple of late moves by Mike Bonner forcing the others to do the work figuring since they liked chasing so much they could chase him too . I started the sprint 3rd wheel left it late and drove for the line spurred on by the knowledge that if i got it wrong I would have to explain myself to team management , Mark Paget got a well deserved 2nd
and Paul Hearne filled out the top 3 .
All that was left to do was cheer on my team mates on the other category and witness Sams classic winning salute.
Top organization and volunteers from the Midland Cycling club made it great day despite the weather .
