Tour of Poyang Lake Day 4 - Jing AnAfter the shortest bus transfer of the tour so far (just 45 leisurely minutes to Jing'an) and a night sleeping on beds that have a hardness rivalled only by granite) the team woke to a bitterly cold morning of just three degrees. Let's call it refreshing.
The organisers shortened this stage from 130km (10 laps of a 10km very extended hot-dog course) to 8 laps (104 km). Eddy pulled out the deep wheels to further intimidate the other riders.
By the time the race started the temperature had risen to a balmy 10 degrees and continued to heat up with virtually no wind on the course.
Scott and Eddy made some aggressive moves off the front with Jake and Dylan chasing down moves by other teams but every time "the team farts" other teams were there to make sure EHBS didn't get very far. Will also
Luckily, the team stayed out of trouble, avoiding several crashes including one that bought down six other riders.
In the end it came down to a bunch sprint - 400 metres after a sharp u-turn. Eddy and Wil were setting it up but got caught up in the questionable cornering abilities of some of the other teams which meant Eddy claimed third place.
Looking at the Garmins, it appears as if the course was a bit short with only 94 km covered out of the gazetted 104 km. Average speed was in the mid-40s.
- One rider bought a turtleneck jumper and converted it into a neck warmer (toque?) with some scissors and a bit of handy sewing.
- With considerable intervention from Nina we have recovered the wayward passport - thanks heaps to her for all of her help during the tour.
- Daily quiz: Which team member said this of themselves? "Yeah, but she says that I have child-birthing hips."
