Yanchep National Park ChallengeThe Yanchep National Park Challenge hosted by the Northern Beaches Cycling Club was on Saturday morning. Team EHBS was more than happy to support this new event held on a very hard circuit. It was more or less up a hill then down a hill. It could be said it is one of the hardest criterium circuit in WA.
In the B Grade event we had Sarah-Jeanne Fraser, Damir Kolonic, Jake Flynn and LJ Sleegers. As with every new course no-one new what to expect, but this didn't stop Damir from making the race hard from the start. But what this did do was set the race up for LJ. Riding his brand new Merida Scultura SL bike for the very first time, LJ made the winning break of 3 riders. He finished a fantastic 2nd, expect big things from this young kid.
A Grade had Eddy Hollands, Dylan Pierre-Herbert, Chris Glasby, Scott Newman and our Dutch guest Joris. A special mention to the OCBC team that showed for a good test off their form. After a couple of laps a few guys were in big trouble already. Eddy made the from group, unfortunately Dylan just missed catching the front group after chasing for around 4 laps. OCBC had 2 guys, GDT had 3 guys, Plan B had 2 guys leaving Eddy to fend for himself. Towards the end of the race the attacks started again splitting the group. After racing the National Criterium Title just 2days ago Eddy finished in 4th.
This event will become one off the premier events over the next few years. I am sure we will be back next year.
