State Crit Title 2013

February 25, 2013
The State Crit Title was held on the weekend down at Technology Park in Bentley. Run in fine conditions with the natural grand stand in the shade of the trees good racing was watched by the big crowd.

EHBS team started of the day with Conor Sherwin and Luke Sleegers competing in a very strong Under 19 race. The boys represented themselves very well in what turned out to be a fiery race.

The pace was on from the very beginning with the GDT team and Plan B fighting amongst themselves. Conor was well positioned with 2laps to go and looking good for a top 5 placing. But with the push and shove going on between a few guys causing the bunch to switch across the road. Conor was involved in a crash taking out another rider who required an ambulance to enter the course. Luke finished safely in the bunch, not bad for a little climber.

It was then the Masters turn. With Sam Smith, Dan Hughes and the defending champion Chris Glasby a podium result was always on the cards. The boys road very aggressively and made the race very tough for the other competitors. With every brake that developed over the race one or two of the guys where always present. The final break of 4 got away with Sam present.

Unfortunately for Sam, the break had 2 very fast sprinters in the race and as a result Sam finished in 3rd place. Dan sprinted to very nice 7th with Glasby always working hard to finish 9th.

In the open event we had Eddy Hollands and Dylan Pierre-Humbert representing the team. In a field of over 35 guys and with 2 other teams very well represented it was always going to tough. But the boys rode very well to be in every break making the other teams chase. Eddy was in what looked like to be the race winning move but was caught with 2 laps and go. With tired legs Eddy rolled across the line just outside the top 10 and Dylan crossing the line not long after.

Not quite as successful as previous years but still some good signs for the team.
