West Coast Masters 21/4/2013Today was the first race of the West Coast Masters Cycling Club road season with 8 laps of the Herne Hill course.
In a feild of 25 starters we had Eddy Hollands, Chris Brown, Chris Glasby and Martin Depiazzi. So a good result was always on the cards.
The race started with the usual attacks from Greg Stoyles and the for the next few laps guys tried to escape but after 3 laps it was all back together. The next 2 laps were uneventful until Glasby started to attack once again. At one stage we was by himself only about 100m off the front but with bunch unable to catch him it made life for the rest of us very easy in bunch.
Eventually he was joined by Michael Tapscott from Total Travel Team and then by Greg Stoyles from the KHT team. These 3 worked well together until the business end of the race when unfortunately Greg lost contact and then Glasby getting himself free off Michael on the last little rise. Leaving Glasby to cross the line with plenty of time to look back to see the damage he had caused.
Chris Brown managed to sneak away with a about 4kms to go and run a very nice 5th place. Not bad for someone that only rides 2 days a week. He looked smooth doing it too.
Marty and Eddy finished in the what was left of the bunch in 10th and 11th respectively.
Another well run event by the WCMCC, WA must be only state where bike riders want to become old.
